Now living in Quanah, Jayson’s work is in constant demand by working cowboys and collectors alike, a months-long waiting list testament to the popularity of his work. This allowed for the purchase of better tools which, in turn, yielded better pieces and, over time, a shop of his own. Incorporating what he learned on his own with the time spent with Mike, the improvement in Jayson’s work eventually allowed him to transition from giving away his work to other cowboys to selling. One of the few gear makers willing to offer advice and instruction, Jayson’s artistic side improved immensely under his direction. While working in Whiteface, however, Jayson came into contact with Mike Richardson, a local high school shop teacher that would also cowboy on the same ranch. But he said, ‘I’ve got some scraps of silver around here and I’ll sell you those.’ He shot off an ungodly price he wanted for them – I couldn’t afford that!” Improving in the craft therefore came through his own experience and learning from others on the rare occasion. But I asked him where he got his silver at, and he’d just say, ‘Oh, I buy it from some Indians over in New Mexico.’ But he would never really tell me where to get it. Jayson mentions one such spur maker while working on a ranch out in Muleshoe: “I’d go to another guy’s shop to pick up a little knowledge, but he would just quit working as soon as I walked into the door. Although some spur makers would be willing to give advice, most saw it as losing business by sharing trade secrets. From this first pair Jayson continued to pursue spur making, eventually starting his own business upon retiring from cowboying in the 2000s.įrom here Jayson continued to improve, learning mainly on his own. Jayson reflects on this experience, stating, “I tried to build me some stuff, and boy did it look terrible! It was bad.” While this first pair was crude they were nonetheless functional, a source of pride for Jayson which still hang in his house. Unable to pay for high quality gear, Jayson instead took up the task of learning to build his own pair, using spare parts around the ranch. But living on cowboy wages, it was simply out of reach. As Jayson explains, “It’s just something that you’re born with it’s in your blood…It’s a great lifestyle…It’s just something you love.” While not starting in spur making until later in life, he always had an appreciation for high quality cowboy gear. Growing up in Sherman, much of his early life was spent cowboying across the various ranches in Texas and New Mexico, representing a cowboy lineage stretching back to his grandfather. While recognized as a master spur maker, Jayson Jones didn't get started in the craft until later in life. The table below shows some sample data which we used to locate the good and bad zones. After locating the line positions, we used the difference between the original lines and the red lines to calculate the average and maximum gap values. First, we collected the average gap values and then used our test instrument to draw six red lines on the screen. We used these gap values to analyze sensitive areas (good zones) and non-sensitive areas (bad zones). Generally speaking, smaller gaps between pixels is better. We tested touch screen quality along the six red lines and within the four zones shown in the figure below.įirst, we used data provided by touch testing apps to calculate the average gap and maximum gap. Anti-Interference to evaluate possible touch screen interference due to various wireless transmission (Wi-Fi/BT) and power charging conditions.User Behavior such as scroll, multi-touch, and drag.We divided our touch tests into two categories: To help the reader understand the test details, we have provided visual aids and summary tables below. These tests evaluated touch screen sensitivity, interference capability, scroll/drag performance, etc. To understand these factors, we present some recent testing that our smartphone validation team performed. In this article, we explore some important factors that contribute to smartphone touch screen quality. In the ultra-competitive smartphone market, delivering a quality user experience is the key to success. Although touch technology is not new, some touch screens still perform poorly. Most smartphones include touch interfaces so that users can use simple gestures, like dragging, scrolling, sliding, or swiping to interact with their phone. Subdivision I: The Early Years (1968-1974) Over the years, Rush became one of the best-known and most-successful rock acts of all time, particularly in their native Canada. Even once Rush moved past their prog rock heyday, their music was mostly inventive, energetic, and-above all-distinct. In the early 1970s, acts like Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Atomic Rooster had demonstrated that trios could produce excellent progressive rock, but Rush pushed the capabilities of that limited format to its extreme with complex suites containing massive tonal variation. Originally, this Deep Dive was slated to be a look at Genesis, but Neil Peart’s unfortunate passing earlier this year prompted me to push off the Genesis entry for a later date. I’d made no firm plans as to when, exactly, but they were undoubtedly on the docket. Rush is a band I’d always planned to eventually cover in this series. The context in which albums were made is important, and that is an element often missed in a ranked list. I’m opting to explore albums chronologically, as opposed to a ranked-list format. Welcome to the fourth installment of Deep Dive, where I take an in-depth look at the studio discographies of some of the giants of progressive rock and progressive metal.įor those who don’t feel like reading this massive entry, I’ve included a TL DR and ranking of albums at the end. After buying supplies and tossing them in the closet, I had forgotten all the inspiring projects I had planned to make. There were so many buried supplies that I discovered in this clean-out process. When I say find inspiration, I mean this both metaphorically and literally. So before I show you my before and after pictures, I want to tell you what I discovered when I took the time to do this. However, how does one exactly train mentally you may ask? Well, the best way to do so is to put yourself in hard situations and recreate ones that you may experience on the racetrack. Almost everyone knows how to keep a physically fit body, which is to stick to a diet and consistently train with purpose. The ability to have a good start, stay focused, and keep cool under pressure are some of the mental aspects of go-kart racing. But drivers often fail to recognize the mental side of driving. Maneuvering go-karts is already a strenuous activity physically. For example, if the track is wet and a massive downpour is occurring, you may need to take wider lines and later apexes because that is often where grip is found on a wet racetrack. And depending on multiple factors such as weather conditions, tire wear, and the situation at hand, a driver must be able to adapt to the changes accordingly. There are many racing lines in a circuit. This line ensures that you are maximizing every inch of the track, spending the least amount of time turning, and carrying a lot of speed while doing so, all of which is needed in order to be quick around a circuit. The racing line is known as the quickest way around a racetrack or circuit. The term “racing line” is something no doubt every fan of motorsports has heard. So, these are 10 methods that are guaranteed to make you quicker on track. All these tried-and-true methods are ones that almost all drivers swear by. However, there are basic fundamentals on how to be fast that have been developed long ago that are still effective and useful until now. Despite the goal being simple, which is to go faster than your opponents, drivers have many ways to go about this. The world of go-kart racing can get pretty complicated at times. Instead, you may earn a high positive return one year and a negative return the next. You will not earn the average annual returns of all the funds in a unit trust category and you will not earn an average return each year throughout your retirement. However, past performance is no guarantee of future performance and the returns you actually earn may be very different. The results are based on the performance of relevant unit trust fund categories representing the investment strategies over the past 10 or 20 years. This calculator is offered as a guide only to give you insight into how long your savings could support a particular income level. Please be aware that this calculator is not intended to provide personalised advice or recommend an appropriate drawdown for you. The calculator illustrates this by showing you the value of your income over your retirement years in today's rands. As your capital is eroded, this maximum drawdown will be off a smaller base, resulting in a rapid decline in your income in after-inflation terms. If you reach the maximum amount you can draw – 17.5% of your savings - your income can no longer increase and its purchasing power, or after-inflation value, will decrease. The calculator assumes you will increase your income by the inflation rate each year, which means your annual drawdown rate will change each year. The returns used for these strategies are based on the average returns achieved by the relevant unit trust fund categories over either 10 or 20 years to December last year. The calculator allows you to test an income level assuming your savings are earning returns in line with one of four different investment strategies.Your annual drawdown rate must be between 2.5% and 17.5% each year. Your chosen income level will equate to a percentage of your annual capital in the living annuity and this is known as your annual drawdown rate. Use this calculator to test how long your savings invested in a living annuity will support the income you want in retirement. Humerus fractures can occur in a variety of ways and places, and they all fall under the general category of humerus fractures. In those cases, specific treatment for those issues will be necessary in addition to treating the fracture. It’s important to note that other issues can occur along with the fracture, such as dislocation, nerve or arterial damage, or damage to the brachial plexus. These types of fractures are common in children, but in this article, we are focusing on adults. Open fractures are those where the skin is also broken near the fracture, which can increase the risk of infection. There are also comminuted fractures where the bone is broken into many small pieces.humerus can be displaced or non-displaced, meaning the broken pieces are either far apart or almost touching. Not only can the humerus be broken in different places, but it can also be fractured in different ways. Innovative design allows to use it for both arms. Here’s a video of me summarizing this article. Our shell brace can be use also to protect and support arm after humerus fracture surgery. The pressure relief cushion is made of skin-friendly soft material SoftComfort™. In addition, it’s covered with armpit soft pressure relief cushion which improves comfort of use. It is made of soft fabric and offers wide range of circumferential adjustment. This solution offers the highest level of arm stabilization. The circumferential chest strap, which is attached to the shells, goes around the chest and provides perfect stability and limits against involuntary arm’s movement. The shells are covered soft, skin-friendly thermoformated fabric Active3D™ on the inside. This shoulder brace is lightweight and comfortable for the user. The shells cover shoulder joint and arm keeping their anatomic shapes and providing professional immobilization. The shells have Velcro fasteners on the inside, where you can attach soft pressure relief cushions 3D. The shells are equipped with swivel buckles and cut-outs for circumferential straps. They are fully perforated for proper air flowing. The system consists of external and internal arm shell. Shoulder shells are anatomic-shaped 3D orthopedic system made of low profile ABS which maintains the shape of user’s body. Shell design provides circumferential compression of muscles and soft tissues and improves healing. Humeral shell splint offers arm stabilization. Our arm shell brace immobilizes the arm in case of its fracture while leaving your elbow free, allowing motion in your forearm and hand. The brace consists of lightweight anatomic-shaped shells and adjustable strapping system, which maintain the arm in the required treatable position. Humeral fracture splint is an excellent option instead traditional casting. The treatment of shaft fracture involves arm rest and immobilization with professional humeral shell arm brace. It may be result of accident and may be associated with nerve damaged (“drop arm”). When humerus shaft fracture occurs, the arm is swollen and deformed. There are three types of humerus fracture injuries based on the location: proximal and distal humerus fracture and humerus shaft fracture. Cervical collar with Reinforcement Strap. While reading articles, options are conveniently placed in a toolbar across the bottom to leave an article unread, mark favorites with a star, switch to an uncluttered “reader” view, or share using any service installed on your iOS device including Instapaper, a feature still missing on the Mac version. Many options are available from the article list by holding your finger down until a contextual menu pops up, including handy shortcuts for copying feed or homepage URLs. Press and hold to reveal contextual menus with shortcuts for quickly copying, sharing, or marking articles as read. NNW 5 features a button at the top of the article list to filter out already read feeds, as well as a “mark all as read” option along the bottom, with a preference to confirm this action first should you want it. There’s even a shortcut for jumping to the next unread article by tapping the downward triangle on the bottom toolbar. With an article open, it’s easy to jump to the next by swiping left. Smart feeds help filter out some of the noise, but there’s currently no way to customize or add to the three available options. However, you can import OPML backups to continue reading the same feeds you’ve subscribed to. I’d love to be able to create our own custom smart feeds, for example. NetNewsWire only supports two services Feedbin and Feedly. Such options definitely help cut down on the noise factor with a volume of busy feeds, but they don’t go quite far enough. Like macOS, NNW 5 for iOS comes with 16 popular local sources ready to read.Īlso in the source list are a trio of “smart feeds,” essentially automatic filters for reading feeds published on the current day, all unread, or articles marked as favorites. Although NetNewsWire 5 for Mac remains stubbornly limited to Feedbin and locally imported feeds, the mobile edition adds sync with my preferred service Feedly to the mix. Get in syncĪlthough there was little reason to sync RSS feeds with other devices prior to smartphones and tablets, it would be inconceivable to release an app without it today. On iPad, there’s additional support for multiple windows and-with the right accessory attached-nearly 30 keyboard shortcuts, which make the app feel more like the desktop version. On the iPad, there are nearly thirty keyboard shortcuts available to make the tablet version more like the Mac.ĭespite remaining faithful to the macOS aesthetic, NNW 5 takes full advantage of iOS, with excellent support for Siri Shortcuts and system-wide Dark Mode (a manual toggle switch for the latter would be welcome, however). If you like to tweak text size or font style, for example, this is not the news reader for you. NetNewsWire shows you articles from your favorite blogs and news sites and keeps track of what you’ve read. (It’s a testament to Simmons’ coding prowess that not a single “hot fix” update has been necessary during the first month of availability.) One downside to being so nimble is there’s not much in the way of custom display options. Where competing apps frequently get bogged down with complexity and feature bloat, NetNewsWire 5 for iOS remains lean and most importantly, free of the pesky bugs which increasingly seem to infect modern apps. |
